Fair Work Australia says Craig Thomson probe may never be made public

FAIR Work Australia says its inquiry into federal Labor MP Craig Thomson might never be made public.

The investigation was ordered three years ago after allegations that Mr Thomson - when he was secretary of the Health Services Union - used a credit card to pay for prostitutes.

Fair Work Australia said "no decision has been made on whether the investigation report to be provided to the general manager will be made public".

Union official Kathy Jackson, who sought the inquiry, said it must be made public.

"Of course this report should be released. How could it not be in the public interest, particularly given the controversy surrounding this case and the delays in processing?" she said.

Opposition Leader Tony Abbott said the delay was not acceptable.
